Ranches for sale in Montana

Montana Ranches for Sale

Browse Ranch Real Estate Listings for Sale in Montana

United Country Real Estate’s UC Ranch Properties offers a wide variety of premier and luxury ranches for sale in Montana. Rugged and wild Montana is a western rancher’s dream, and all that land in Big Sky Country equates to some very large ranches. Buyers seeking a manageable 160 acres or so still have plenty of options, but if you’re looking for as many as 62,000 acres on a single ranch property, you’ll likely find it here, particularly in northern Montana.

There are numerous ranches with contiguous acreage, BLM leases, deeded land and enough grazing lease opportunities to keep cattle fed for the long run. Family-owned ranches are also common, some dating to the 1800s, with a focus on preserving cowboy culture and western tradition. With so much wilderness in Montana, hunting on these ranches is always popular. Elk, mule deer, big horn sheep, antelope and other game thrive here, often near adjacent national forests.

UC Ranch Properties features Montana ranches with spring-fed creeks, timber ridges and coulees. There are live water riverfront ranches along the Missouri and Yellowstone rivers, others with stocked trout fishing ponds, some ideal for horses, some perfect for raising sheep. You’ll find incredible trails for horse riding, and ranches with stunning mountain views. Browse our listings below to discover some of the best ranches in Montana.

Learn More About Montana

Montana has three geographic regions with very distinctive climates and natural resources. Each region offers different recreational and ranching opportunities.

  1. Western Montana is characterized by its tall mountains, winding rivers, and abundant forests. The space between the mountains is fertile which can be used for agricultural production. The largest city in this region is Missoula with a population of approximately 75,000 people. There are many smaller and medium-sized towns in Western Montana. The mountains in this region are rich in gold, silver, and copper. Another characteristic of Western Montana is that it sees more rainfall than any of the other regions in the state.
  2. Central Montana has a diverse landscape that includes plains and mountains. This region of Montana is the most characteristic of what most of us imagine as “classic Montana”.  Wide open spaces, small populations, and an overall rural way of life. Lewistown is located within this region which is Montana’s geographic center. It is also home to one of the nation’s purest water supplies. This region of Montana is also home to its largest rivers: the Missouri River and the Yellowstone River. The soil in this religion is primarily Scobey soil. The well-drained and deep nature of the soil makes this area greatly suitable for agricultural and ranching use.
  3. Eastern Montana is often characterized as dry and windy. This region contains mostly rolling hills and wide open spaces as well as badlands. The temperatures here are more drastic than any of the other regions in that state. In the winter, the temperatures are colder and in the summer the temperatures are warmer than in the other areas of the state. This area is rich in coal and natural gas as well as buffalo, cattle, and sheep.
