Learn More About Colorado

Colorado is divided into 3 separate regions. Each region delivers a shift in population, elevation, and ranching opportunities.

  1. The Front Range region is home to a majority of Colorado’s largest population centers.  Although the area has far more residents, it does not fall short when it comes to outstanding views and the state’s best sights. The steep mountain range is located in central Colorado and is often described by the locals as the “foothills of the Rockies”. The Urban Corridor of the Front Range is where the majority of Colorado’s most populous cities are, including Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, and Fountain. Out of the 5.9 million people who reside in Colorado, 5 million of them choose to call the Front Range their home.
  2. The Western Slope is the area west of the Continental Divide. This region of Colorado covers about the eastern third of the state but only 10% of Colorado’s population resides here. While a small sliver of the population resides here, a large portion, approximately 70%, of Colorado’s water comes from this region. Most of the “iconic” Rocky Mountains Geography that you see in photos is derived from the Western Slope. Other iconic places in the Western Slope include many famous ski resorts such as Vail and Aspen.
  3. The Great Plains is the region that covers much of the Eastern part of the state. It contains grassy prairies and large open spaces. This region of Colorado is primarily focused on ranching and agriculture. The soil is characterized as silty and sandy and the weather here varies greatly based on the time of year. During the cold winter months, the temperatures can reach below zero. Yet, during the warmer months, the temperatures can measure up to 100 degrees. The two most prominent natural vegetation types in this region are resistant grama and buffalo grasses.
