Although Ohio is mainly full of plains, when divided up into five geographical regions, each portion would have its own best quality. The northern Great Lakes Plains is known for its fertile land which makes it one of the best places to be to ranch. The Till Plains (west and center of the state) is also very fertile, it is one of the main spots where Ohio grows corn.
The state has about 100,000 acres of ranches, farms, hunting land, and other lands for sale. Ohio ranches raise approximately 296,000 cows and there are about 1,450 dairy farms. Portage County has the most farms out of the 88 counties in Ohio. It ranks fifth as the nation’s leading agricultural state.
Ohio was declared one of the greatest industrial states, due to its fantastic location, supply of natural resources, fertile soils, cheap energy, and abundance of transportation. In 1850 Ohio ranked first in agricultural output among the United States and has continued today to rank near the top of the areas of production.
